Older underground storage tank (UST) systems were commonly constructed of bare steel and tended to corrode and leak over time due to a variety of conditions. Leakage from tanks, lines, pumps, and various system fittings are not uncommon in these older systems or in new UST systems.
Assessments are conducted at leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites to determine the location and extent of contamination resulting from leaks and spills. Various investigative techniques are used to assess the source area as well as the surrounding subsurface soil and groundwater. Superior has assessed contamination extending underneath commercial buildings, within residential areas, and at sites with widespread groundwater contamination. Our experience ranges from small to large-scale problems such as residential heating oil tanks to gasoline stations to large refineries and bulk plants. Superior has assisted owners and operators of UST systems of virtually all sizes and configurations. Numerous Superior employees are also certified as Underground Storage Tank Professionals.
Superior’s LUST assessments commonly consist of the following:
After completing a LUST assessment, Superior will submit any required corrective action plan or report to the appropriate regulatory body and guide you through the remediation process to site closure. Our experience includes working with owners to obtain reimbursement from state LUST reimbursement programs. Our goal is for our clients to receive closure on their LUST site as quickly and cost effectively as possible.
Superior has completed LUST assessments and is familiar with LUST regulations and rules in the following states:
