Underground Storage Tank Deadline Extended

At its meeting on January 19, 2016, the Michigan Underground Storage Tank Authority Board of Directors extended the deadline for owners and operators to buy-down their Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund deductible for calendar year 2016 to March 31, 2016. This option to buy-down the deductible from $50,000 per claim to $15,000 per claim is available to owners and operators and their affiliates who own 7 or fewer refined petroleum USTs. Updated Musts for USTs Publication

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recently issued an updated version of their Musts For USTs publication (November 2015) which summarizes federal UST requirements for installation, reporting, spill and overfill prevention, corrosion protection, release detection, walkthrough inspections, compatibility, operator training, repairs, financial responsibility, release response, and closure. The Michigan Underground Storage Tank Authority officially began accepting claims, invoices, and requests for indemnification as of January 1, 2016. Incident Response Preparedness

Superior Environmental Corp recently participated in a functional exercise with a confidential pipeline company which simulated a large scale oil spill scenario on a major southwest Michigan river. Underground Storage Tank Cleanup in Michigan

The new state fund to assist owners and operators with their leaking underground storage tank cleanup costs in Michigan is up and running. They expect to begin accepting claims, work invoices, and requests for indemnification on January 1, 2016, including eligible work from 2015. Superior Supports Access to the New Buy Down Provision for Storage Tanks

The new Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund is now available to owners and operators of refined petroleum underground storage tanks in Michigan, as a means of meeting their financial responsibility requirements, through the Michigan Underground Storage Tank Authority (MUSTA).
